2010 San Francisco 49ers Season Preview
Posted 7/20/2010
With the retirement of Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner, the San Francisco 49ers suddenly find themselves as the team to beat in the NFC West.

San Francisco was one of the hot picks last year to reach the playoffs, but problems at the quarterback position derailed those hopes.

The 49ers decided to stick with Alex Smith and end the Shaun Hill experiment, hoping the former No. 1 overall pick is finally ready to show why he was such a highly-touted player coming out of college.

Smith can't complain about the weapons around him. The 49ers have worked hard to upgrade the offensive line, have a strong running game behind Frank Gore and some young, emerging wide receivers.

Wide receiver Michael Crabtree could explode in his second NFL season while it seems like tight end Vernon Davis has finally tapped into his vast potential and found out what it takes to be a star in the league.

If the 49ers take care of business and play up to their capabilities, it's hard to see them not winning the 9 or 10 games it will likely take to wrap up the NFC West division title and a playoff berth.
