Philadelphia Eagles 2011 Playoffs Preview
Posted 1/4/2011
The Philadelphia Eagles come into the NFL playoffs with concerns following a two-game losing streak.
Even more concerning is that Michael Vick is banged up and did not play well in his last game. There has even been some talk that Vick would sit out the first-round matchup in favor of Kevin Kolb, but that seems to have died down.
The Eagles will host the Packers in the first round, a team that beat them at Lincoln Financial Field early in the season. Ironically, the Eagles fell behind by a large margin, benched Kolb and brought in Vick, and then rallied back to make it close. The rest is history.
Philadelphia's defense has been hit hard by injuries, but the secondary remains solid. They have some trouble stuffing the run, which makes the Packers a good matchup for them. Green Bay is a terrific passing team but has virtually no running attack.
Just a few weeks ago, some though the Eagles were the best team in the NFC. That may still be the case, and it wouldn't be surprising if they made a deep playoff run. How interesting would it be to see Vick and Co. take a trip to Atlanta for the NFC championship game?
This could turn into a shootout, and it's going to be a very close game. If the Eagles can get DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin involved early and protect the quarterback, they should get past the first round.
