Oakland Raiders News Update
Posted 8/23/2009
The Oakland Raiders have released fullback Lorenzo Neal just months after signing him to a contract.
The team expected Neal to push two others for the starting fullback job but a quick recovery from a knee injury by Oren O' Neal changed the team's plans.
The Raiders are really happy with the progress they've seen from O'
Neal and expect him to win the starting job.
The veteran Neal could get a look from the Baltimore Ravens, where he was an integral part of their three-headed rushing attack.
The Ravens let Neal walk earlier this year to help their salary cap situation and because they wanted more versatility from the fullback position.
Coaching incident under investigation
The NFL is investigating a coaching incident involving the Oakland Raiders in which an assistant had to be treated at a hospital for injuries.
The victim told the hospital that he did not want to press charges but that he was struck by a prominent Oakland coach.
That Oakland coach is believed to be Tom Cable, who was mad that the assistant cursed at another coach.
Cable has refused to answer any questions about the incident, which has become a joking matter among the team's players.
