Oakland Raiders News and Information The Oakland Raiders had yet another disappointing season in 2007, but things are looking up heading into 2008.

For one, the team allowed last years No. 1 overall pick, quarterback JaMarcus Russell, to see some decent playing time in the last month of the season. That little bit of seasoning will hopefully pay off coming into 2008.

Russell also has more help around him now, as the team made two key offensive additions in the offseason.

The first involved prying away wide receiver Javon Walker from the division rival Denver Broncos. Walker is coming off yet another serious knee injury and his healthy is a major concern, but there is no doubting his impact when he is healthy.

The Raiders used the No. 5 overall pick in this years draft to select running back Darren McFadden, who is just another addition to an already very deep backfield.

The team helped alleviate some of the depth chart concerns by cutting running back Dominic Rhodes, and they are hoping to trade veteran back LaMont Jordan for a future draft pick.

Justin Fargas, the teams starting running back, injured his knee at the end of last year but should be healthy in time for training camp. Fargas and McFadden should be a strong tandem in the backfield.

The defense, which just a couple of years ago was one of the best in the NFL, has now gone completely the other way.

Defensive tackle Warren Sapp retired at the end of last season, and while his best days were well behind him, he was still a solid veteran who will be hard to replace.

The Raiders should win more games than last year, although that isnt saying much. This team is still a couple of years away from being a playoff contender.
