The New York Jets managed to finish the season at the .500 mark despite starting Geno Smith at quarterback, which goes to show that Rex Ryan is a better coach than many believe. It seemed like everyone was ready to run Ryan out of town, but considering the hand he was dealt, he did one of the best coaching jobs in the entire league last year.
The Jets return with Smith as their starting quarterback, which is just delaying the inevitable. Smith isn't an upgrade over Mark Sanchez at all, but the Jets seem willing to stick with him for another year. The team did bring in Michael Vick in the offseason, and it's possible he could eventually see action, but it's pretty clear he can no longer handle a 16-game season without getting hurt.
The Jets also signed wideout Eric Decker, a quality pass-catcher who is likely to quickly get frustrated with all of the inaccurate balls heading his way. While talented, Peyton Manning really made him look a lot better than he is, which means the Jets likely overpaid for his services.
If all goes right, the Jets could hang around on the outskirts of the playoff race, but there just appears to be too many more talented teams in the AFC.
