2010 New York Giants Season Preview
Posted 7/20/2010
It was a disappointing 2009 season for the New York Giants, who missed the playoffs and now have a coach on the proverbial hot seat.
The Giants have some issues on both sides of the ball that need to be addressed if they want to have any chance at all to compete for an NFC East division title, much less an NFC championship.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Giants have seen their running game slow from where it was when they won the Super Bowl. Brandon Jacobs is banged up and not the same player he once was.
The passing game has really suffered ever since the team released wideout Plaxico Burress. Steve Smith is a fine player, but he isn't a No. 1 receiver. Does Amani Toomer even have a pulse anymore? The Giants need to Hakeem Nicks to step up in his second season and give Eli Manning a legit target.
The defensive line also needs to get back to its previous form. There is a ton of talent among that group and they do a good job getting after the quarterback, but too often they get pounded by the running game.
New York still has enough talent to make the playoffs, but the little things that Tom Coughlin preaches have to be done correctly if they want to extend their season into January.
