New Orleans Saints 2009/2010 Playoffs Preview
Posted 1/7/2010
The New Orleans Saints sprinted out to a 13-0 record only to lose their final three games and leave a lot of questions about whether or not they are still for real.

Like last year, the Saints are fueled by an explosive offense that is led by quarterback Drew Brees. Brees was on pace to break a number of NFL records at the beginning of the year, but the offense began to slow down in the second half of the season.

Still, there is no doubting the explosiveness of the Saints offense, especially when it comes to hitting on the deep ball.

Brees simply has too many weapons at his disposal for opposing teams to worry about. Wide receivers Marques Colston, Deverey Henderson and Robert Meachem are all capable of making big plays down the field.

Running backs Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush are explosive catching screens and swing passes out of the backfield, and you can't forget out tight end Jeremy Shockey working the middle of the field.

The Saints have two major questions on offense: Can they withstand pressure on the offensive line and is the running game strong enough to at least create the illusion of balance on that side of the ball?

New Orleans crumbled in their first loss of the season, which came at the hands of Dallas Cowboys. Their offensive line could not handle the amount of pressure the Cowboys put on the quarterback.

The Saints could have to face the Cowboys again, which would be a bad matchup. Could they make the proper adjustments and fix some of their pass protection issues?

The defense is also suspect and has been ravaged by injuries in the second half of the season. Safety Darren Sharper is having a huge season, but can he continue to hold together a depleted secondary?

The Saints have as good of an offense as any team in the NFL and have homefield advantage througout the playoffs. That's a big advantange in the raucous Superdome, which is one of the toughest places to play in the league.

For a team that started out 13-0 and has been to the playoffs before, anything less than a trip to the Super Bowl would be a major disappointment.
