New England Patriots 2011 Playoffs Preview
Posted 1/4/2011
The New England Patriots come into the NFL playoffs with the longest winning streak in the NFL and the title of "team to beat."
Quarterback Tom Brady hasn't thrown an interception in 11 weeks. The Patriots simply don't beat themselves, which makes it almost impossible for an opponent to hang a loss on Bill Belichick's group.
Speaking of Belichick, the Patriots have a huge advantage when it comes to the sidelines. There is little doubt he is the best and most experienced coach in the playoffs, and this year might be his best work yet.
The Patriots aren't overwhelmingly talented, but they are just so well coached. The playcalling is fantastic, and the Patriots always seem to have the players in the best position to optimize their chances for success.
The Patriots will play at home throughout the playoffs, which is also a huge advantage. The only team that should scare New England is the Ravens, who have shown time and again that they aren't scared of playing at Gillette Stadium. The Ravens have played three games in New England over the past two years, winning once and losing by a field goal in the other two meetings.
If New England can get past Baltimore, or avoid facing them, the path is clear for a trip to the Super Bowl. They would be the favorite in that game as well, though they could face some tricky matchups should certain NFC teams make it that far.
