Kansas City Chiefs News and Information

The Kansas City Chiefs saw a decent start to 2007 end in an ugly way, and 2008 could be a big year for head coach Herm Edwards.
The Chiefs struggled in part because of running back Larry Johnsons serious foot injury that cost him much of the season, but the teams offense is in need of a major overhaul.
The teams biggest issue remains at the quarterback position, where a combination of Brodie Coyle and Damon Huard proved to be a disaster.
The team still has high hopes for Coyle and believes he could be the quarterback of the future, which explains why they didnt select a quarterback in the NFL Draft. The Chiefs want to give Coyle another season to show what he can do before writing him off and going in another direction.
Coyle doesnt have much help around him, as his wide receiver corps has to be considered one of the worst in the NFL. Dwayne Bowe has showed flashes of brilliance and could be an impact wideout, but there are no other talented players at that position on the team.
Tight end Tony Gonzalez is still a great safety valve, but he is no longer the impact player he once was.
The defense is clearly the teams strength, but even that unit took a major hit in the offseason.
The Chiefs, unwilling to give defensive Jared Allen a major contract, elected to trade him to the Minnesota Vikings for a host of draft picks. Allen had some character issues that concerned the Chiefs, but there is no doubting his talent.
While they were very well compensated and were able to use the picks to add some quality young players in the NFL Draft, it wont help this years team compete for a playoff berth.
