Detroit Lions 2011 Season Preview In Detroit, there hasn't been this much excitement about an upcoming football season since the days of Barry Sanders.

After yet another outstanding draft, the Lions believe they have one of the best core group of young players in the entire league, especially along the defensive line.

The key to making a huge leap forward this year will be the healthy of quarterback Matthew Stafford. He hasn't been able to stay healthy in his first two years in the league, so keeping him off his back and on the field will be the team's primary goal.

If Stafford can stay healthy, this could be the year that wideout Calvin Johnson truly takes off and establishes himself as the best at his position. He has all the physical tools. Now he just needs someone who can get him the ball on a consistent basis.

The Lions could be a darkhorse to reach the playoffs, but they will have their work cut out for them in the NFC North.
