Denver Broncos 2008 Article
After a second consecutive disappointing season, the Denver Broncos are looking to make an impact in 2008. Head coach Mike Shanahans job appears to be safe, but his seat is certainly getting a little hot despite his long tenure in the Mile High City. The Broncos have their fair share of problems coming into 2008, beginning on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Jay Cutler was diagnosed with diabetes in the offseason. While it shouldnt affect his play on the field, any time someone has such a condition, it is certainly cause for concern. Cutler also wont have as much help around him this season. Running back Travis Henry was cut during minicamp as a hamstring injury combined with lingering questions on his character and work ethic led the team to decide to cut ties. The move leaves the team with very little experience at running back, and they will likely look to sign a veteran such as Shaun Alexander to at least give them some more depth. The Broncos also let wide receiver Javon Walker loose, and he signed with the rival Oakland Raiders. While Walker is a huge injury risk, he is a fantastic wideout when healthy and would certainly be an asset to the Broncos. Wide receiver Brandon Marshalls arm injury this offseason was a serious cause for concern, although it doesnt look like he will miss any of training camp as first thought. However, his off-the-field conduct has angered and frustrated teammates, as Cutler made comments about how he always seems to be involved in some type of controversy. Marshall doesnt seem concerned about his injury, predicting he will have over 100 catches this year. The defense was one of the teams biggest problems last year, and they didnt do too much to address those issues in the offseason.
