News and Information
The Denver Broncos came up short of the playoffs yet again in 2008, leading team owner Pat Bowlen to make a major move that no one could have anticipated.

Bowlen fired good friend and head coach Mike Shanahan, who also served as the team's general manager. He said he just thought it was time for the team to move in a different direction, as hard as the decision may have been.

Bowlen then made a bold move by hiring New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, now the youngest head coach in the league.

McDaniels then attempted to orchestrate a trade for Matt Cassell, a move that failed and served only to anger current starting quarterback Jay Cutler.

The two tried to patch things up, but it seemed like neither side really cared all that much to give in and apologize for their stance. The end result was a trade of Cutler to Chicago for draft picks and quarterback Kyle Orton.

The Broncos did upgrade their defense, signing long-time Philadelphia Eagles safety Brian Dawkins. He should help Denver's run defense, which has been very poor the last few seasons.

The schedule doesn't bode well for the Broncos outside of the AFC West, as they are set to play the NFC East and AFC North.

Games against Pittsburgh and at Baltimore seem like sure losses while any NFC East opponent is going to cause the Broncos some serious problems.

Denver Broncos 2008 Article

After a second consecutive disappointing season, the Denver Broncos are looking to make an impact in 2008.

Head coach Mike Shanahans job appears to be safe, but his seat is certainly getting a little hot despite his long tenure in the Mile High City.

The Broncos have their fair share of problems coming into 2008, beginning on the offensive side of the ball.

Quarterback Jay Cutler was diagnosed with diabetes in the offseason. While it shouldnt affect his play on the field, any time someone has such a condition, it is certainly cause for concern.

Cutler also wont have as much help around him this season.

Running back Travis Henry was cut during minicamp as a hamstring injury combined with lingering questions on his character and work ethic led the team to decide to cut ties.

The move leaves the team with very little experience at running back, and they will likely look to sign a veteran such as Shaun Alexander to at least give them some more depth.

The Broncos also let wide receiver Javon Walker loose, and he signed with the rival Oakland Raiders.

While Walker is a huge injury risk, he is a fantastic wideout when healthy and would certainly be an asset to the Broncos.

Wide receiver Brandon Marshalls arm injury this offseason was a serious cause for concern, although it doesnt look like he will miss any of training camp as first thought.

However, his off-the-field conduct has angered and frustrated teammates, as Cutler made comments about how he always seems to be involved in some type of controversy. Marshall doesnt seem concerned about his injury, predicting he will have over 100 catches this year.

The defense was one of the teams biggest problems last year, and they didnt do too much to address those issues in the offseason.
