Cincinnati Bengals News and Information

The Cincinnati Bengals had a disappointing 2007 season and seem to be going in the wrong direction heading into 2008.
After the serious knee injury to quarterback Carson Palmer in the playoffs just a few seasons ago, it seems like everything has gone downhill for this franchise.
Wide receiver Chad Johnson is very unhappy with the team and threatened to sit out the season. Johnson has reported to camp, but you have to wonder how happy his teammates really are to have him there.
Sadly enough, Johnson and the rest of the wide receiver corps is probably the teams biggest strength. However, even that group took a hit this offseason when the team finally cut ties with troubled wide receiver Chris Henry.
Henry missed half of last season after being suspended by the NFL for his behavior off the field. He got in trouble again this year for an assault, and the Bengals finally decided the distractions werent worthwhile.
It was probably a good move by Cincinnati, a team known for having players running into trouble with the law. However, the Bengals went ahead and drafted two guys with questionable character in this years draft, raising eyebrows around the league.
The teams defense is horrible and got even worse in the offseason with the departure of safety Madieu Williams, who was arguably one of the best players on the unit. The team also lost defensive end Justin Smith, who was one of the top pass rushers in the AFC.
Defense continues to be a major issue for the Bengals, which just puts incredible pressure on the offense to be perfect at all times and score a high number of points each game.
Running back Rudi Johnson rededicated himself in the offseason after playing through injuries last year and is stronger than a year ago. Kenny Watson and Chris Perry could both push him for playing time.
Its going to be a rough season for the Bengals, and anything better than a last place finish in their division has to be considered a success.
