Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning signed a one year contract with the defending champs, keeping to his word to return if the Heat won the NBA title.
Mourning played for the veteran minimum last year, which is around $1.1 million. This deal most likely is not very different, but exact financial figures were not released.
Mourning was third in the NBA in blocks per game last season and averaged roughly seven points and five rebounds as Shaqs backup.
Miami now has all but one player from their playoff roster from last year under contract. Only Gary Payton is unsigned, but he has expressed an interest in returning to the Heat. |

The Miami Heat do not want to take any chances on losing Dwyane Wade and are working with him on a contract extension.
Wade will become a free agent after next season, along with fellow draft class mates LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony.
However, Anthony recently received a contract extension and James is mulling over an offer to stay in Cleveland.
Wade was named MVP of the NBA Finals and is one of the rising stars in the league. |

The Miami Heat have decided to pick up the $1.1 million option for Jason Kopono, meaning he will not become a free agent.
Kopono did little during Miamis championship run but serves as a solid bench player who can come in and knock down shots.
He averaged 4.1 points per game and started two games.
Head coach Pat Riley is thrilled to have Kopono back and says anyone would be hard-pressed to find a better three-point shooter. |

The Detroit Pistons avoided elimination last night by playing a zone defense and taking better shots to beat the Miami Heat and push the series to Game 6.
The Heat were clearly puzzled by the Pistons zone defense, which they had not shown yet this series. It forced Dwayne Wade to pass the ball out at the top of the key instead of driving to the basket.
Shaquille O Neal also found himself in foul trouble for much of the game, particularly the first half.
It will be interesting to see how Miami adjusts to the ... |

The Miami Heat took complete control of the Eastern Conference Finals last night with an 89-78 victory over the Detroit Pistons.
The Heat now lead the series three games to one with Game 5 heading back to Detroit.
Dwayne Wade led the way once again, scoring 31 points and completely taking over the game in the fourth quarter, as he has become known to do.
The Pistons dont seem to have the offensive firepower to stay with the Heat and have not been able to stop Wade on the defensive end.
Winning three straight games to capture the series seems highly unlikely at this point, but if any team could do it, it would be the experienced Pistons. |

The Miami Heat won their second straight home playoff game to go up 2-0 on the Chicago Bulls in their best of seven opening round playoff series.
The Heat had to do it without the services of F Udonis Haslem, an outstanding rebounder and solid defensive player. The NBA suspended Haslem for one game for throwing his mouthpiece in the direction of an official.
That action also got Haslem tossed out of Game 1 against the Bulls.
Miami continues to struggle guarding the Bulls perimeter players, allowing them to shoot 53% from three-point range. Shaquille O Neal and Alonzo Mourning have dominated on the inside, giving the Heat a big advantage in the paint.

The Miami Heat is coming off one of the most successful seasons in franchise history. The Heat made it to the Eastern Conference Finals before bowing out in Game 7 to the defending-champion Detroit Pistons. Center Shaquille O? Neal was acquired in the off-season and helped lead the charge, along with sophomore sensation G Dwayne Wade. The duo helped the Heat to the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. This year, the Heat is looking to take the next step, and once again, they did some off-season shopping. Guard Gary Payton, F Antoine Walker, F James Posey, G Jason Williams and F Andre Emmett were all acquired while the team bid goodbye to G Eddie Jones, G Damon Jones, ... |
