Terps stun Tigers, 20-17

Much was made this week of Maryland’s recent success against the Clemson Tigers in Death Valley their past few trips, and it looks like the story may not have been emphasized enough. Maryland overcame a terrible first half to rally from an 11-point halftime deficit and stun the Tigers and 80,000 orange-clad fans, 20-17. The Terps were able to hold Clemson scoreless in the second half after watching them run up and down the field in the first two quarters of the game. Clemson’s play closely resembled what we saw from them the last two times the Terps came down to Death Valley and left victorious: they were incredibly sloppy and failed to capitalize on numerous opportunities to put the game out of reach. The Tigers allowed Maryland to hang around, and the Terps were able to dig deep down somewhere and find the ability to rise to the occasion in the second half.
Despite a terrible first half game plan, give defensive coordinator Chris Cosh a lot of credit for changing things up at halftime and finding a way to shut down Clemson’s potent running game. It turned out to be the difference in the game.
