Golden State Warriors guard Monta Ellis was injured when he crashed his low-speed mo-ped.
Ellis had told the team that he had injured his ankle while playing pick-up basketball to prepare for the upcoming season.
The guard is expected to miss all of training camp and several weeks of the regular season.
The guard had just signed a new, six-year, $66 million contract with the team, which hopes to play him at the point to replace the departed Baron Davis.
Riding a mo-ped is included in the contract as something that Ellis is not allowed to do.
The team could have grounds to void his contract, but they are not expected to do so. The two sides are now discussing potential disciplinary action or a fine for the incident. |
