The Minnesota Vikings gave up a lot of draft picks to acquire defensive end Jared Allen, including this year’s first round pick.

The fact they gave up so much for Allen, a very good football player in his own right, really limited what they could do in the draft.

I did like how they selected quarterback John David Booty in the fifth round. He isn’t going to be a star in the league but is an accurate passer and could be at least a quality backup.

I am in no way sold on quarterback Tavaris Jackson, so Booty was a good pick.
