Detroit Red Wings goalie Dominik Hasek has retired from the NHL after 16 seasons.

The announcement comes less than a week after his team won the Stanley Cup.

However, Hasek’s struggles in the playoffs led the team to switch to goaltender Chris Osgood, who played very well the rest of the way to lead the team to the Cup.

Hasek cited a lack of motivation for the upcoming season as the reason for his retirement from hockey.
