Constantly injured Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Nomar Garciaparra is close to going on a rehab assignment.

While he might be nearing a rehab assignment, the team doesn’t expect him to be ready anytime soon.

Garciaparra has hardly done any running, so the team doesn’t really know exactly how much his calf injury has actually healed and how it would respond to some stress.

Even if and when Garciaparrra returns from the disabled list, it is unlikely the veteran will see a lot of playing time given the performance from third baseman Blake DeWitt.
