Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz underwent surgery to repair the torn labrum in his right shoulder, but his future in baseball is up in the air.
Smoltz expected to be able to announce that he would return next year right after the surgery, but the prognosis was unclear following the surgery.
The pitcher went on the disabled list twice with shoulder problems before opting for surgery.
Manager Bobby Cox said that doctors repaired a lot of damage and they wouldnt know Smoltz future until he begins rehab.
