The New Orleans Saints have given defensive end Will Smith a six-year contract extension worth $70 million, with $26 million guaranteed.

He becomes the league’s third-highest paid defensive end behind the Minnesota Vikings Jared Allen and the Indianapolis Colts Dwight Freeney.

Smith had voiced his displeasure with his current contract throughout the spring but pledged to report to all mandatory camps and training camp.

He made the Pro Bowl in 2006 and led the team with seven sacks last season.
