The Milwaukee Brewers have decided to give outfielder/first baseman/designated hitter Jay Gibbons the second chance he has begged for from Major League teams.
The Brewers have signed Gibbons to a contract for the remainder of the season worth just under $1 million, and he will begin in the minor leagues.
The team expects him to be pretty rusty after he missed nearly an entire season of baseball and hopes he can work out some of the kinks in a minor league stint.
The goal is to get a chance to assess where he is as a baseball player and hopefully bring him up to the majors if they deem him to be someone who can help the club.
Milwaukee views Gibbons as cheap way to acquire some experience and depth while also possibly catching lightning in a bottle if he plays well. |
