The Washington Nationals have traded closer Jon Rauch to the Arizona Diamondbacks for a minor league second baseman.
Rauch saw his value skyrocked over the past few months after he inherited the closers role from Chad Cordero, who is out for the year with a shoulder injury.
Many around baseball, especially teams trying to trade off veteran relievers at the deadline, are angry with the Nationals because they felt they did not get nearly enough in return for Rauch and therefore have set the standard return too low.
The second baseman they acquired in the deal is a good fielder with a ton of speed but struggles at the plate. He could be in the majors as soon as next year, but he is not projected as an impact hitter. |
