St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter is set to begin his rehab assignment after being out since Opening Day of 2007.
It is the next major step of Carpenters battle to get back to the major leagues and pitch sometime in August.
While watching the division rivals make major trades to improve their ballclubs, the Cardinals have pointed to the eventual return of Carpenter as a huge boost.
The 2005 National League Cy Young Award winner is expected to make several starts at Double-A because the lower leagues swing too freely. The hope is that it wont take him any more than a month to be back in the big leagues. |
