The New York Mets have placed pitcher John Maine on the disabled list with a bone spur in his right shoulder.
Maine missed time from July 29 to August 13 and knew that he would have to pitch with a shoulder problem for the rest of the season.
In his three starts since his return, Maine has failed to throw a full six innings.
The right-hander said that rest helped alleviate the pain the first time around so he is hoping for similar results now. He hopes to be able to return and pitch the final few weeks of the season.
It’s a devastating loss for the Mets, who are trying to hold on to a slim lead in the National League East and need all of the starting pitching they can get.
In a corresponding move, the team has activated second baseman Luis Castillo from the disabled list. |
