Kansas City Royals center fielder Mitch Maier suffered several facial fractures after being hit in the face by a pitch in the fifth inning against the Cleveland Indians.
Maier had squared around to bunt with runners on first and second and in a sacrifice situation and was hit in the right side of the face.
Manager Trey Hillman said Maier was bleeding and had been hit by the ball just below his right eye.
The outfielder sat on the ground for a few moments and was quickly surrounded by trainers and coaches. He then made his way to the clubhouse before being taken to the hospital and having X-rays. |
