Miami Heat head coach Pat Riley announced he was stepping down yesterday but remaining in his role as team president.

Riley had several times during the season that he would finish out his contract, which ended in 2010.

However, the team continued to play worse and worse and it became apparent that Riley was looking to rid himself of coaching this disaster on a day-to-day basis.

Assistant coach Erik Spoelstra will become the team’s new head coach.
