Zappa Plays Zappa News and Information

Zappa Plays Zappa is the epitome of a tribute tour - Dweezil Zappa and his band tour the country performing the music of his late father, the legendary musician Frank Zappa.
The band began touring in 2006 with "Zappa Plays Zappa - Tour de Frank.” The show included a number of Zappas rock songs that he made famous during the '60s, '70s and '80s. Dweezil sat on lead guitar for every show, and the rest of the band included a mix of young, unknown musicians as well as older musicians that performed with Frank.
Napoleon Murphy Brock performed sax, vocals and flute in the shows, while Terry Bozzio and Steve Vai frequently held guest spots on the drums and electric guitar, respectively. Many shows included Zappa posthumously through audio and video technology.
The tour eventually came to a close, but Dweezil brought the group back together during the Fall of 2006, including a show in New York on Halloween, which was a tradition of Frank.
The band is continuing to tour with Dweezil on guitar, Aaron Arntz on trumpet and keyboards, Scheila Gonzalez on saxophone, flute, keyboards and vocals, Pete Griffin on bass, Billy Hulting on percussion, Jamie Kime on guitar and Joe Travers on drums and vocals. In 2007, a special guest to the shows was vocalist Ray White.
