Yanni, self-taught pianist, keyboardist and composer, is scheduled to tour from April to May 2009. This tour, which is known as the 'YANNI VOICES: LIVE IN CONCERT' tour, will take him throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Yanni was born in Greece as Yiannis Hrysomallis, and moved to America when he was 18 to attend college. He studied psychology at the University of Minnesota, and eventually received his Bachelor's Degree. It wasn't until after his graduation that he decided to pursue a career in the music industry. Though he didn't know how to read musical notes, he played keyboard for a local group called "Chameleon."
Then, he decided to dream even bigger. He moved to California in hopes of creating a movie soundtrack. In 1987, he and (now long-time) band mates Charlie Adams, and John Tesh began touring to promote their albums.
Yanni's breakthrough came in 1993 with "Yanni Live at the Acropolis," which was a concert that had been filmed in the Herod Atticus Theater in Greece. Since then, Yanni has gone on to produce a total of 15 albums, four videos and a book about his life.
"As I understand life at different levels, I can use music to express what these levels feel like to me. Hopefully the listener can be transported to this understanding by listening to the music."
