The Charro of Mexico, Vicente Fernandez, is touring the U.S. this summer in support of his June 2009 album Necesito De Ti.

Fernandez's U.S. tour kicks off on July 23 in Fresno, Calif., and concludes with a special three night performance in Universal City, Calif. from Nov. 12-14. Along the way, Fernandez has performances in San Francisco on July 24; Sacramento on July 25; Denver on July 30; and Albuquerque on Aug. 1.

He then takes a two month break before returning to Orlando on Oct. 8; Miami on Oct. 10; Rosemont, Ill. on Oct. 17; and Dallas on Oct. 24.

Vicente Fernandez, who is the father of Latino superstar Alejandro Fernandez, released his 53rd studio album Necesito Do Ti, in June 2009.

Vicente Fernandez, born in 1940, is a classic case of rags to riches. In his youth, Fernandez lived on a ranch and worked in his uncle's restaurant. When he was 14, Fernandez's life took a drastic change. He won an amateur singing contest for a local television station and began performing locally, but soon his father lost the ranch and they were forced to move. Struggling to survive with only a grade school education, Fernandez took as many odd jobs as he could find.

By 20, Fernandez decided to devote himself to music full time and pursued several singing gigs on local television shows and restaurants. In the early '60s, a short-lived marriage left Fernandez a widower with four young children.

Fernandez's breakthrough came in 1966 when he was offered a recording contract from what is now known as Sony Discos, a label he still works with to this day. In the span of his 40+ year career, Fernandez has released more than 50 studio albums and acted in more than 40 films.

Fernandez, now in his 70s, continues to tour and releases albums on a regular basis. He continues to honor a tradition of playing in Universal City, Calif. on an annual basis, occasionally with his son, Alejandro Fernandez.
