TV on the Radio is touring the U.S. from now until the end of October in support of their fourth studio album, Nine Types of Light.
The tour, which concludes on Oct. 30 at City Park in New Orleans, includes stops at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on Sept. 14; Tulsa's Cain's Ballroom on Sept. 18; Denver's Ogden Theatre on Sept. 21, and more. On Sept. 16 the band will play alongside Broken Social Scene at the Dallas House of Blues, and they've got two gigs with the Arctic Monkeys: Sept. 24 at the San Diego State Open Air Theatre and Sept. 25 at the Los Angeles Hollywood Bowl.
Nine Types of Light debuted in April 2011, and features popular hits like "Caffeinated Consciousness" and "Will Do." It is also the last album to feature bassist Gerard Smith who died of lung cancer shortly after the album was released.
TV on the Radio, often abbreviated as TVOTR, was founded in 2002 by Tunde Adebimpe and David Andrew Sitek. Together they released their first demo collection dubbed OK Calculator. From there, they joined up with Kyp Malone and released Young Liars EP in 2003, which was shortly followed by their first full-length studio album, Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes.
The album was a success, earning them the 2004 Shortlist Music Prize and a solid 4 of 5 stars from critics like Allmusic, Blender and Tiny Mix Tapes. Still trying to emerge into the maistream music scene, the band continued their recording streak with their second EP, New Health Rock, the same year. Their real breakthrough came in 2006 with the release of their third studio album, Return to Cookie Mountain, which was named Album of the Year by Spin Magazine. With songs like "Province" and "Wolf Like Me," TVOTR swept to the top of the charts.
Since then TVOTR has continued recording and releasing on a steady basis. They have another three EPs under their belts, as well as two more studio albums: Dear Science (2008) and Nine Types of Light (2011).
Though they've had several changes in the band line-up, the must recent members include Adebimpe, Malone, Sitek, and Jaleel Bunton, who was chosen for the group's 2011 tour after losing bassist Gerard Smith to cancer.
