Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are making headlines after the announcement of their extensive North American tour this summer and first studio album in over eight years.

The band kicks off their 40-city tour on May 6 in Raleigh, NC, before winding through the U.S. and Canada before wrapping things up on Aug. 27 in Saratoga Springs, NY. They will have special guest appearances on the majority of their shows from ZZ Top, My Morning Jacket, Joe Cocker, Crosby, Stills and Nash and Drive-By Truckers.

Their 12th studio album, "Mojo," is due out in spring 2010. In November 2009, Petty told Rolling Stone that the album is "blues-based."
