Tom Jones is hitting the road mid-April, taking his show on tour through the end of July before setting up shop at the MGM Grand Hollywood Theatre for the rest of August.
Jones, who has sold over 100 million records with his blue-eyed soul brand of pop, found massive success in the late '60s and early '70s and remains successful today as an icon to all generations.
The British singer became popular boasting overt sexuality with tight bands and billowing shirts, similar to the look that Prince embraced decades later. In 1963, Jones became the front man for Tommy Scott and The Senators, and the group released the single "Lonely Joe/I Was A Fool." As Jones became more notable, he started to branch on his own and released the massive success "It's Not Unusual" in 1965.
"It's Not Unusual" kicked off a string of hits, including "Green Green Grass of Home," "What's New Pussycat?" "Help Yourself" and "Delilah." In the early 1960's, Jones became a household name with his variety show "This Is Tom Jones," and he had a number of hits with "She's A Lady," and "Till."
During the late 1960's, Jones began recording less and opted instead for lucrative night club performances. He became fast friends with Elvis Presley, and they spent much time together until Presley's death in 1977. In the mid-1980's, Jones found success with "A Boy from Nowhere" and a version of Prince's "Kiss."
In 2000, Jones released "Reload," which was the most successful collection of his career. The cover album included duets with a number of artists, including "Burning Down the House" and "Sex Bomb." Jones continues to record and hit the road, but he always saves a good amount of his tour for the MGM Grand, a cabaret-style show that he has perfected over the years.
