Tina Turner is planning to hit the road this fall on the Tina: Live in Concert Tour, her first tour since the record-breaking Twenty Four Seven Tour in 2000, the fifth-biggest tour to ever cross the U.S.
Turner has earned the title "The Queen of Rock & Roll" over her career, as well as a number of illustrious awards - she has scored eight Grammy Awards, as well as being named one of Rolling Stone Magazines "Immortals - The Greatest Artists of All Time." She is one of the most popular female artists of all time, selling over 180 million records and her concert sales are higher than any other solo performer in history.
Turner was born in Tennessee and began singing for Ike Turner at the age of 18. When a singer failed to show to perform on "A Fool in Love" for Ike, Turner filled in and the single became a hit. They eventually married, though the union was tumultuous.
Over the next two decades, Turner became a star. She was a backup singer for Ike, but she also had a dynamic onstage presence. It was during this time that she performed some of her classics, including a cover of Credence Clearwater Revivals "Proud Mary."
After divorcing Ike, Turner branched out on her own during the 1980s. She released "Private Dancer" in 1984, which was considered a massive comeback that solidified her as a solo act. The album included the title track, as well as "Whats Love Got to Do With It," "Lets Stay Together" and "Better Be Good To Me."
Turner became a film star with "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome," which also led to another hit on the movies soundtrack - "We Dont Need Another Hero." She continued to release successful albums, and was particularly hot when the 1986 biography "I, Tina" was turned into the motion picture "Whats Love Got to Do with It?" Turner was involved in the soundtrack, including the hit single "I Dont Wanna Fight."
Turners most recent studio album was "Twenty Four Seven" in 1999, which included the hit singles "Whatever You Need" and "When the Heartache Is Over."
