Though The National have been touring steadily since early 2010, there are still plenty of chances to see them as they continue their U.S. performances through mid-October.

Their tour is in support of their fifth studio album, High Violet, which debuted in May 2010. This has been the band's highest-charting album to date, as it sold just over 50,000 copies during the first week and jumped to No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The U.S. tour is scheduled to conclude on Oct. 18 at The Fillmore in Denver. From November through January 2011, the band will be touring overseas.

Taking influences from Wilco to Bruce Springsteen, The National formed in Brooklyn in 1999, and has a very unique set of members. Singer/songwriter Matt Berninger is joined by two pairs of brothers: Aaron and Bruce Dessner and Bryan and Scott Devendorf.

The band's first release was titled American Mary, though the first studio album came with 2001's The National. Interestingly enough, the band's self-titled debut came out under Brassland Records, which was created by the Dressner brothers.

Following the release of The National, the bandmates left their day jobs and focused on music exclusively. This lead to 2003's Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers, which was a success. So much so that the band decided to leave their label (and the headaches associated with it) behind and sign on with Beggars Banquet Records.

Their first album released under the new label proved to be a success, and though Alligator never made it on the Billboard charts, they were named Album of the Year by LA Times. In 2007, they released Boxer, their fifth album, and reached mainstream success.

After its release, Boxer peaked at No. 5 on Billboard's Independent Albums Chart, No. 9 in the Tastemaker Albums Chart and No. 68 on the Billboard 200. It also made it onto the Rock Albums Chart at No. 21.

Their 2010 release has also been a success.
