From March to June, The Decemberists are performing throughout the U.S. with special guest Andrew Bird. The tour, called "A Short Fazed Hovel," is scheduled to end at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tenn.
Formed in 2000, The Decemberists are an indie rock band from Portland, Ore. The bands current members are singer/songwriter Colin Meloy, guitar/multi-instrumentalist Chris Funk, piano/keyboardist Jenny Conlee, bass guitarist Nate Query and drummer John Moen.
They have released five studio albums, and are currently working in their sixth, titled "The Hazards of Love," which is set for release on March 24, 2009.
"The Hazards of Love" was inspired by an Anne Briggs 1966 EP, according to a press release: "The album began when Meloy - long fascinated by the British folk revival of the 1960s - found a copy of revered vocalist Anne Briggs's 1966 EP, titled The Hazards of Love. Since there was no actual song with the album's title, he set out to write one, but was soon immersed in something much larger."
