The Telluride Bluegrass Festival is scheduled for June 19th-22nd and will feature Bruce Hornsby and Rick Skaggs performing together, plus shows from Boulders Yonder Mountain String Band, Ani DiFranco, Bela Fleck, Ryan Adams and Darrell Scott.

While the festival, in its 35th year, is known just as much for its serene location in the Telluride Mountains in Colorado as it is for its collection of bluegrass greats, among other artists.

This year will being a particularly eclectic collection of performers and group shows. On Thursday, June 19th, Ryan Adams & the Cardinals and the Ani DiFranco band will kick things off. On June 20th, Paolo Nutini, Bela Fleck, Duos with Friends, and Skaggs and Hornsby will perform with Kentucky Thunder. The following day features The Frames, Sam Bush Band, Yonger Mountain String Band and many others, and the weekend will finish up with the Telluride House Band featuring Sam, Bela, Jerry, Edgar & Bryan.

In addition to the performances, a number of workshops will be available throughout the weekend at Elks Park. There are lessons on songwriting and instrument building, as well as performances from a number of up-and-coming artists and several competitions.

Night Grass is also a popular feature. Shows are held on Colorado Avenue in Telluride in the Sheridan Opera House, Fly Me to the Moon Saloon and Las Montanas. This gives attendees an opportunity to explore the quaint town while listening to music.

On the other side of the coin, families are also emphasized. The Family Tent includes a number of musical and education programs for children and parents alike. The Living Folklore Clowns Giggly Sprout and Gumbo Wobbly will be at the festival for their tenth consecutive year. The jugglers grove offers lessons for jugglers, young and old. It doesnt stop at balls, though - the Chinese yo-yo (Diabola) and craft hoop decorating are also part of the fun! Jammin Jim show combines singing, acting, levitation, comedy and magical tricks for a performance all members of the family will love.

The festival has grown since its inception in 1973, when it was created around the towns annual Fourth of July celebration to bring more fun for the ski towns summer. The event began with only one bluegrass band - Fall Creek. As the years progressed the lineups grew up the small, quaint feel of the festival stayed the same.

As Telluride is an outdoors-y town, camping is certainly an option and has been over the years. A number of areas are available, for all types of camping. Other lodging is also available, and daily tickets are an option for festival goers.
