Steve Winwood's latest studio album, "Nine Lives," was released April 2008 on Columbia Records. This January, hes set to perform all along the east coast.
Stephen Lawrence Winwood is an English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. During his illustrious career he has been a member of the bands Traffic, Blind Faith, Go, and the Spencer Davis Group.
At just the age of 15, Winwood became a member of the Spencer Davis Group with is older brother "Muff." He co-wrote and recorded "Gimme Some Lovin" and "Im a Man" before leaving to form the band Traffic with Chris Wood, Jim Capaldi and Dave Mason. It was during this time that Winwood joined forces with Eric Clapton as part of Eric Claptons Powerhouse.
During the late '60s, Winwood became close friends with Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix heard the song "All Along the Watchtower" at a party he was invited to with Winwood and Mason. They later recorded a Hendrix version of the song.
Throughout the years, Winwood has worked with and formed numerous groups, but more recently in 2007 he shared the stage with Eric Clapton, in Claptons Crossroads Guitar Festival. Winwood appeared with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers during Pettys summer 2008 tour.
