Steve Martin News and Information Now you can add banjo player to the long list of credentials that Steve Martin has already accumulated: actor, comedian, writer, playwright, producer and composer. His band, the Steep Canyon Rangers, is on tour in the U.S. through November. They also just released a new album titles "Deep in the Shade."

In addition to Martin, the Steep Canyon Rangers are composed of Woody Platt on guitar and lead vocals; Graham Sharp on banjo and harmony vocals; Mike Guggino on mandolin and harmony vocals; Charles R. Humphrey III on bass and harmony vocals; and Nicky Sanders on fiddle and harmony vocals.

The band, from Asheville, N.C., was nominated for two International Bluegrass Music Awards in 2008, including one for Album of the Year. In 2006, the Rangers were named Emerging Artist of the Year at the IBMA awards ceremony in Nashville.
