Social Distortion has kicked off a fall tour in support of their upcoming studio album, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes. The tour runs from Oct. 19 at First Avenue in Minneapolis through Nov. 24 at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, Ariz. Special guests Lucero and Frank Turner will join Social D's fall tour.

Along the way, Social Distortion also has stops at Washington, D.C.'s 9:30 Club on Oct. 26; Philadelphia's Electric Factory on Oct. 29; the Tabernacle in Atlanta on Nov. 10 and more.

Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, the band's seventh studio album, is scheduled for release on Jan. 18, 2011. The album is a first for the band on many levels. Not only is it their first new music since 2004's Sex, Love and Rock 'n Roll, but also it's the first time they have recorded with new bassist Brent Harding and their first release on Epitaph Records.

With more than 30 years and seven studio albums under their belt, Social Distortion shows no sign of slowing down in the future.

Social Distortion, or Social D, formed in Southern California in 1978. Though it originally and currently contains four members, Mike Ness (lead vocals, guitar), is the only member who has been with the band since the beginning. The remaining current lineup includes Jonny Wickersham (guitars), Brent Harding (bass) and David Hidalgo Jr. (drums).

In 1983, the group released their first studio album, Mommy's Little Monster, which included the hits "Another State of Mind," The Creeps" and "Telling Them." Though the album was successful, the band broke up in 1985 because of Ness's drug addiction. After several stints in rehab clinics, Ness abd the band reformed in 1986 and haven't disbanded since.

From 1988-1996, the band released four albums: Prison Bound, Social Distortion, Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, and White Light, White Heat, White Trash. Though the band had received positive feedback with their debut album, it wasn't until Prison Bound, which featured popular songs like "Ball and Chain" and "Story of My Life," that the band was signed to Epic Records.

Over the course of the band's history, there have been several major change-ups, though the most major was the 2000 death of Dennie Danell, the band's guitarist since 1979.

In 2004, the band released Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll, which they dedicated to Danell. One of the hits that came from that album was "Reach for the Sky." Their most recent album is January 2011's Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes.
