Snoop Dogg Background Information
Snoop Dogg has changed his image over his years in the rap game, beginning with a hard-core persona and evolving into the star of his own reality show that follows his moves as a family man and a rap icon. Snoop grew up in Long Beach California and was playing the piano at the tender age of 5. He eventually landed in jail for cocaine trafficking and was a member of the Crips gang in Long Beach. Prior to his stint in jail, Snoop made mixed tapes with his cousin Nate Dogg and best friend Warren G., who was the stepbrother of Dr. Dre of NWA. They formed the band 213, and eventually Dre began collaborating with Snoop. Experience with Dre helped to propel Snoops debut album "Doggystyle" to the top of the charts. The album included the hits "Who Am I (Whats My Name)?" and "Gin and Juice." By the time "Tha Doggfather" was released in 1996, Snoop was beginning to see his world crumble - many of his friends were dying and Suge Knight, the co-founder of his first label, Death Row, was going to jail. When Snoop attempted to leave Death Row, he realized that he was bound by a contract that gave Knight ownership of every song he produced, so he stayed quiet through 1998. The rapper released a number of albums on Master Ps No Limit Records. Over the years, his sound became softer, including the hit single "Beautiful" with Pharrell Williams in 2002. In 2004, Snoop moved to Geffen Records, which solidified his move to a softer sound. Hits since his move include "Drop It Like Its Hot," "Signs" and most recently the Prince-inspired "Sensual Seduction," which is a brave departure from normal rap sounds - which paid off for the artist. In addition to his music career, Snoop has entertained acting spots, including roles on the television shows "Entourage" and "Monk," plus in the feature film "Starsky & Hutch." Most recently, Snoop stars in "Snoop Doggs Father Hood" on the E! channel. GreatSeats.com uses secure servers to process your order for the Snoop Dogg tour.
