Slipknot is heading out on the road with Coheed and Cambria and Trivium in January to support their latest offering, "All Hope Is Gone."
The group, which is currently made up of Sid Wilson, Joey Jordison, Paul Gray, Chris Fehn, Jim Root, Craig Jones, Shawn Crahan, Mick Thomspon and Corey Taylor - this group has been performing together since 1999.
The band got together in Iowa in 1995 and changed their lineup a number of times prior to the independent release of "Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat" in 1996. During that time, the band started experimenting with their image, including wearing grotesque make-up and eventually, the group began wearing masks.
Their self-titled debut dropped three years later, which brought the group commercial and critical success. The magazine "Q" named the album as one of the "50 Heaviest Albums of All Time." To drum up support, the band headed out with a number of fellow heavy metal rockers.
Their follow-up, "Iowa," was called by Rolling Stone "the first great record of the nu metal era" and was tremendously popular commercially. "Vol.3 (The Subliminal Verses)," their next album, seemed to turn a new page for the band - with somewhat traditional structures. The group went on the road with Ozzfest (for the third time).
After the tour, the band took a hiatus, but got back into the studio in October of 2007 - the group went into the studio with plans to make this their heaviest album to date, while also incorporating some acoustic guitars and melodic vocals. The group also has spiffed up their masks - they will wear "evolved" masks to match the new sounds of the album.
In July and August, the band intends to headline the first-ever Mayhem Festival," and will spend the time until them on the road with Coheed and Cambria and Trivium.
