Silverstein is a post-hardcore band from Burlington, Ontario of debatable sub-genre.They got their name from Shel Silverstein; one of their favorite authors of popular children's books named. The band was formed in 2000 in what they facetiously called in a press bio "an attempt to exploit the marketability of hardcore and emo". While they do ape many elements of these genres, some street team promoters place them in the "emocore" genre.
