Ron White has become one of the most successful members of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, known for his alias, Tater Salad.
White is known for wearing all-black outfits and often smoking and drinking while on stage. He certainly embraces the notion of a southern bad boy, as he tells his tale of leaving the Navy with a drug addiction and he later became the primary public speaker for the drug abuse program that he used to quite the habit.
While White had a serious time in his life, he makes light of all of it now. He came onto the scene around 1990 with the nickname "Tater Salad.” He says he got the nickname when he was 17 and arrested for driving under the influence. When asked if he had any aliases, White replied "Tater Salad.” Almost two decades later when arrested for public drunkenness, an officer asked him "Are you Ron 'Tater Salad White?” He also claims that he got the name in the Navy.
White came into fame with Jeff Foxworthy and the rise of blue collar comedy, although he was the only member not to partake in the Blue Collar TV series, though he did make several guest appearances. He tried his hand at sketch comedy with "The Ron White Show,” but it wasnt picked up.
White has released the comedy album "Tater Salad aka Busted in Des Moines” in 2004, "Drunk in Public” in 2003 and the DVD "They Call Me 'Tater Salad” in 2004.
