Watch out! Here comes Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band Tour of 2010! With his newest album, "Y Not" now available and 33 dates in America confirmed (with more on the way), Ringo is getting serious about entertaining his fans this year. The line up this year includes some seriously magnificent talent: Edgar Winter and Gary Wright will join Ringo's newest band members Rick Derringer, Richard Page (from Mr. Mister), Wally Palmer (from The Romantics), and Gregg Bissonette returning on drums.
When the man says, "All Starr," he means it. There is no doubt Ringo is enlisting a little help from his very magnificent musician friends!
The All Starr Band began when Ringo invited a few friends to have some fun with him in the summer of 1989. Ringo's solo career had already blossomed to a strong start. In 1971, his hit singles, "It Don't Come Easy," "Early 1970," and "Back Off Boogaloo" and "Blindman" in 1972, were nothing to sneeze at. In 1973 he made even more hits with, "Photograph: Down and Out", and "You're Sixteen, (You're Beautiful and You're Mine), to name a few.
Starr continued to prove himself as a master song (and hit song) writer over the years. When he called upon The Eagle's Joe Walsh, and Bruce's E-Street Band's Clarence Clemmons to join Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Dr. John, Billy Preston and Jim Keltner, the first All Starr Band was born, and it has been serious fun all these years. To date, there have been over ten versions of the band, with the lineup rotating according to the musicians available for the project at the time.
Says Starr about the All Starr experience of revolving musicians: "For me it works as a great formula. If you look at all the bands I've put together, it's an incredible array of musicians, all these different people. Everyone has hit records, hit songs. The show consists of me upfront and then I go back behind the kit and support the others. It's good music and a lot of fun, and that's what it's all about -great music and fun."
Starr, who became world famous as the comic relief drummer of The Beatles, says that his dream since birth has been to be a drummer. His unique wit and cheerful heart are clearly present in his songwriting. His philosophy? "I always followed my heart and I never missed a beat." Way to go, Ringo!
