Rick Springfield is a Grammy-Award winning musician who also dabbles in songwriting and acting, with a number of hit songs and performances under his belt.
The singer grew up in Australia and Great Britain - he began playing the guitar at age 13 and dropped at of highschool to pursue his musical career. He started off in the band Rock House and toured Vietnam to entertain troops stations there. He then joined the group Zoot, a popular outfit in Australia.
At the age of 22, Springfield relocated to Hollywood, Calif., and recorded his first album, "Beginnings." The single "Speak to the Sky" hit the No. 14 spot on the Billboard Top 100, and he began to grace the covers of teen magaziness like 16 Magazine and Tiger Beat quite regularly. In 1973, he starred in the Saturday morning cartoon "Mission: Magic!" and a soundtrack was released.
In 1973, He released "Coming Book Heroes," which was considered a "concept record" and was reviewed favorably by Rolling Stone. HE released his third album, "Wait for Night" in 1976, and "Working Class Dog" in 1981, which included the massive hit "Jessies Girl" and "Ive Done Everything for You." "Jessies Girl" scored him a Grammy Award in 1982, and he was nominated for two more awards in the following two years. His follow-up album, "Success Hasnt Spoiled Me Yet" included a number of hits, too, including "Dont Talk to Strangers" and "What Kind of Fool am I?"
"Living in Oz" in 1983 included the hits "Human Touch," "Souls" and "Affair of the Heart" - the album went platinum. The 1984 "Love Somebody" off of the "Hard to Hold" soundtrack was his last Top 10 hit - he stopped touring in 1985 when his son Liam was born. Since then, he has released a string of albums but has toured less aggressively to spend more time with his family.
Also on his plate, however, are the acting gigs that he has been pursuing for years. Springfield scored a spot on General Hospital in 1981, when he didnt think that "Working Class Dog" would be much of a hit. He remained on the show for two years, while touring constantly with his band. In 1984, he filmed the movie "Hard to Hold," which was considered a bit of a box office flop, but it gave Springfield a hit single off of the soundtrack. More recently, Springfield has found TV work on "Suddenly Susan," "Human Target" and "High Tide."
Most recently, he returned to General Hospital to reprise his role of Noah Drake in 2005, and remains a reoccurring guest star.
