REO Speedwagon News and Information
Posted 6/18/2009
REO Speedwagon is currently on tour throughout the U.S. between now and the end of October with Styx and .38 Special as the supporting acts.

REO Speedwagon, the American rock band that took their name from a flatbed truck and fire engine, started out in the late '70s and '80s and are most known for their power ballads, such as "Can't Fight This Feeling" (1984) and "Keep On Loving You" (1981). The group formed in 1967 and played songs in campus bars at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill.

The band, which then consisted of consisted of Gary Richrath, Alan Gratzer, Neal Doughty, Gregg Philbin and Terry Luttrell, signed to Epic Records in 1971. The lineup has since changed to Kevin Cronin (lead vocals, guitar), Bruce Hall (bass), Neal Doughty (keyboards), Dave Amato (lead guitar) and Bryan Hitt (drums).

By the end of the '80s the band's popularity waned and the group began to split up. Since the band had all but broken apart and what was left was no longer popular, Epic Records began re-releasing recordings from REO Speedwagon's older albums with updated artwork and design.

From 1995 to the present, the band released over a dozen compilation albums featuring greatest hits, including "The Ballads" in 1999. Then, in 2000, REO teamed up with Styx at the Riverport Amphitheater in St. Louis, Missouri. The show was recorded and later released as "Arch Allies: Live at Riverport," a live DVD performance. The REO portion of the show was the released under three separate titles: "Live - Plus" (2001), "Live Plus 3" (2001) and "Extended Versions" (2001).
