After nearly 10 years, Pavement is back together for a worldwide reunion tour this summer! The tour is scheduled to make its first U.S. stop on July 18 at Chicago's Pitchfork Music Festival, before heading back overseas. In September, the band is back stateside for 20 performances throughout North America.

Some of the highlights of their tour include Chicago's Millenium Park on Sept. 13; Boston's Agganis Arena on Sept. 18; a four-day concert series in New York's Central Park from Sept. 21-24; and their final stop at the Los Angeles Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 30 with supporting acts No Age and Sonic Youth.

Jenny & Johnny will be opening for Pavement on Sept. 18 in Boston and Sept. 19 at Brooklyn's Williamsburg Waterfront.

Though it's been 11 years since Pavement's last studio album, they did release a 'best of' compilation album in March titled Quarantine the Past: The Best of Pavement.

Pavement was founded in 1989 by Stephen Malkmus and Scott Kannberg, who were orginally known only as S.S. and Spiral Stairs. Their early recording days were chock full of lo-fi EPs that were recorded in the home studio of then-drummer Gary Young.

In 1992, the band recruited Mark Ibold on bass and Bob Nastanovich on percussion. Together, the five recorded their first studio album, Slanted and Enchanted. The band has claimed that the album was influenced by the music of The Fall, The Replacements and Swell Maps.

Following their first tour, drummer Gary Young was confronted by members of the band for his antics, which included excessive drinking. Young quit the band and was replaced with Steve West, who remains with the band today.

The current five members have released a total of four studio albums: Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (1994); Wowee Zowee (1995); Brighten the Corners (1997); and Terror Twilight (1999).

After continued frustrations while recording Terror Twilight, it was clear that the band would not be together much longer. Some of the band's members were reportedly upset by the new producer's favoritism toward Malkmus, who wrote the entire record. During the six-month long Terror Twilight world tour, the members began to wear on each other and eventually broke up in 2000.

In late 2009, the band got together again and performed a small number of concerts. Their first official world tour following the reunion kicked off in July 2010.
