As perhaps the most famous man in rock-n-roll history, Paul McCartney is still touring though he is almost 70 years old. He'll be playing three shows in New York, two in Massachusetts and one in Georgia throughout July and August. You won't want to miss it!
McCartney met John Lennon when he was just 15, and joined the group The Quarrymen at the St. Peter's Church Hall f? as a lead guitarist. By 1960, they had tried a few new names, one being "The Silver Beetles" and finally decided on The Beatles.
The Beatles performed regularly at a club in Hamburg for two years. McCartney, reluctantly, became the band's bass player after a member left the band. Their first published musical material brought their attention to Brian Epstein, who later became their next manager. They eventually got a contract with Parlophone in 1962, and became popular in the U.K. in 1963 and the U.S. in 1964.
In 1965, they were each appointed Members of the Order of the British Empire. For four years, they performed in concerts and on tours almost non-stop, and gave more than one thousand four hundred live performances internationally. Their last commercial tour was in 1966, and they broke up in 1970. In total, the group released 12 studio albums, and 24 U.K. singles.
After the breakup of The Beatles, McCartney continued his musical career, in solo work as well as in collaborations with other musicians, such as the late Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. His first solo album, "McCartney," came out in 1970 and he joined guitarist Denny Laine and drummer Denny Seiwell to form the group The Wings, which was active between 1971 and 1981.Since then, McCartney has ventured into orchestral music and classical music.
McCartney was knighted in 1997, becoming Sir Paul McCartney, for his services in music and in 1999 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
He has released 22 studio albums, four classical albums, seven live albums, three compilation albums and a slew of singles and collaborations with other artists.
It's been reported that McCartney's future projects include writing a score of new songs for an animated film based on a 2005 children's book he co-wrote entitled High in the Clouds.
