Panic at the Disco has an eclectic sound, combining pop, rock, dance and electronica, and has developed a diverse - and loyal - following to match, helping the boys to become an off-beat commercial success.
The group came together when childhood friends Ryan Ross and Spencer Smith began playing Blink-182 covers. The duo met Brent Wilson, who later left the band, and Brendon Urie, and they began to perform. To promote their songs, they contacted Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz via LiveJournal. He was so impressed with the music that he traveled to Las Vegas to meet the band and signed them to his label.
The bands debut album was "A Fever You Cant Sweat Out" in 2005. Most of the publicity was done over PureVolume and MySpace, and they eventually made their way ont MTVs Total Request Live and gained fame from the video for the single "I Write Sins Not Tragedies." The group was starting to gain steam with a tour, and their follow-up singles, "But Its Better if you Do" and "Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off," were also successful. By the following year, "Fever" was certified Platinum by the RIAA.
The band followed up the albums success with a worldwide tour, including shows in Australia, New Zealand and Europe. They traveled with Bloc Party, Jacks Mannequin and Plain White Ts. They also traveled with fellow indie/emo pop-rockers Cobra Starship.
In 2007, the band began working on their sophomore release, "Pretty. Odd." Producer Rob Mathes praised the record saying it was "the most significant music project I have done in a while?Working with these young kids has made me look at music the way I did when I discovered early records by The Who and Brian Eno-period David Bowie when I was 16." The album is set for an early Spring 2008 release.
The group will headline the Honda Civic Tour this spring, which should add a new flair to the tour. Panic is known for old-style circus shows, including contortionists and dancers on stage when they perform live.
