Ozzy Osbourne News and Information
Posted 6/18/2009
Ozzy Osbourne made a name for himself in heavy metal, becoming synonymous with the hard rock lifestyle.

Osbourne had impoverished beginnings in England, where he joined the band Earth. The group had a blues-inspired music style, and overtime the sound became darker, particularly with the song Black Sabbath” - which also became the new name of the band.

The band, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Osbourne, became extremely popular after their self-titled debut Paranoid, released in 1970. The group enjoyed massive success across the globe, but in 1979 Osbourne was fired from the band due to drug abuse.

Osbournes life seemed to be in a downward spiral, but future-wife Sharon convinced him to begin life over, and about a decade after parting ways with Black Sabbath, he set off on his own. He first released Blizzard of Ozz,” but Diary of a Madman” was what really gave Osbourne credit as a solo artist in the rock industry.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Osbourne was still trying to kick drugs, and he was mourning the death of his musical partner, Randy Rhoads. The artist performed with a number of artists such as Madonna, and in 1983 he released Bark at the Moon” and in 1983 he put out The Ultimate Sin.”

Since the height of his rock popularity, Osbourne has become particularly famous for his creation of the Ozzfest tour, which brings together the top names in heavy metal almost every year. Acts on the tour have included Rob Zombie, Deftones, Primus, Godsmack, Tool, Pantera, Foo Fighters and Megadeth.
